Many of us see the social media world today as either a form of entertainment or a form of sharing our lives with each other. many others see it as a complete hassle, a distraction and a way to disconnect ourselves from each other.
In a certain way it can be true since the interactions are a “lock in”. if you want to understand what is a lock in better I recommend that you read the book “you are not a gadget”.
Jaron lanier one of the fathers of the internet as we know it writes a manifesto of the vile future that expects us and how lockdown concepts will limit our world as they do it today.
There are also brighter approaches
Monty python said “always look on the bright side of life”. and there is a point to that. we can always look at the world as a black utopia slowly becoming or we can start looking for the positive things.
A whole new professions had grown thanks to social media. the web is full with guides and posts about improving your social media presence or how to get better on youtube and so on and this all might look to ones as a form of entertainment and to others pure distraction.
But this is just how the world we live in and us as a society interact with each other and the world. we divide and create groups that give us a sense of belonging. there is nothing wrong with the person who likes social media or the person who hates it. they are both the same.
They simply belong to different groups of interest. and the internet of things is going to make this even better.
Technology becomes a servant rather than a master
Nowadays we need to be at our computer to interact via social networks. but soon enough it will replace our phone. there will be a convenient intuitive wearable device that in the end will be adapted by society .
The apple watch is not such a good product as I wrote in my other post about it but there will be a device that will connect us again. and this time we will really have the social network as a tool to communicate outside, easily and intuitively.
Computers will return to be a working tool and more elements will transcend into the physical realm. again some of us might hate the idea and some might love it. the truth is that if we don’t destroy ourselves in our own apocalypse there will be a generation that will be born into this state as a natural reality, this is the beauty of the cycle of life.
It allows fresh new minds to continue from the points we grew tired and old of.
